Scenario 4C – Use the data to adjust the course
Collecting feedback through the CoI Survey is only valuable if the data are translated into meaningful action. Teachers should carefully analyze the results, identify patterns, and implement targeted modifications to address issues in specific presences.
For instance, if learners report difficulties in perceiving Teaching Presence, teachers might strengthen their visibility in forums or provide clearer instructions for activities. If Social Presence is rated low, introducing more collaborative tasks or peer–support activities could help. Similarly, low ratings in Cognitive Presence might indicate the need for more structured inquiry–based tasks or opportunities for practical application.
These adjustments can be made visible to students by updating Pages or Course Announcements, and progress can be tracked through Completion Tracking to verify whether the changes have improved engagement. Communicating how feedback has been used closes the loop and reinforces the culture of shared responsibility in the learning process.
