Scenario 1C – Actively facilitate interactions: Instructors should stimulate discussions, guide critical reflection, and provide timely feedback.
An essential aspect of Teaching Presence is being visibly and meaningfully engaged within the learning community. Students are more likely to participate when they feel that the instructor is actively monitoring, guiding, and responding to course interactions.
You might consider initiating discussion forums with open–ended prompts that are clearly linked to course objectives, encouraging deeper reflection and dialogue. It can also be helpful to intervene strategically within these forums – for example, by summarizing key points in a thread, posing follow–up questions, or offering clarifications when discussions stall or drift.
To maintain a sense of continuity and support, you could use BigBlueButton to host brief weekly check–ins or to address common questions and emerging challenges. Gathering input through a Feedback activity mid–course can demonstrate responsiveness and provide valuable insights for adjustment. Additionally, including formative comments and opportunities for revision in Assignment activities can foster a culture of continuous improvement.
